Our Commitment

ThrowAwayMsg is a privacy-first ephemeral messaging platform. We believe privacy is a fundamental right, not a premium feature. This policy explains exactly what we do and don't do with your data — in plain English, with no hidden clauses.

We Can't Read Your Messages

All messages are encrypted on your device — in your browser — before they are sent to our servers. The encryption key is tied to the unique share link, which we never store separately. This means:

• We cannot read, decrypt, or access the content of your messages.
• We cannot recover message content if a message is destroyed or expired.
• We cannot comply with requests to turn over message content, because we don't have it.

What We Store

The only data we store is the minimum required to make the service work:

• The encrypted (ciphertext) message content — unreadable to us.
• A unique share ID used to generate the share link.
• Message metadata: creation date, status (pending/read/destroyed), and expiration settings.
• File attachments (stored as uploaded files, accessible only via the encrypted share link).
• An optional notification email — only if you choose to provide one.

What We Don't Store

• No accounts or sign-ups — you can use the service without registering.
• No tracking of who you are or who you communicate with.
• No analytics, ad pixels, or third-party trackers.
• No IP address logging tied to messages.
• No backups or archives of destroyed messages — deletion is permanent.

Message Deletion

Messages are deleted permanently when: (1) the viewing timer expires after the message is opened, (2) the time limit passes for timed messages, or (3) you manually delete a message from your dashboard. Once deleted, the message and its attachments are erased from our servers and cannot be recovered — not by you, not by us, not by anyone.

Email Notifications

If you optionally provide an email address for read or expiry notifications, we use it solely to send that notification. The email is not used for marketing, tracking, or shared with third parties. It is deleted along with the message when the message is destroyed.

No Selling of Data

We never sell, rent, or trade your data. We don't run ads. We don't have advertising partners. The service is free to use, and our business model does not depend on harvesting your information.

Contact Form

If you contact us through our contact form, the information you provide (name, email, message) is used solely to respond to your inquiry and is not stored beyond that purpose.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change this privacy policy, we will update this page with a new "Last updated" date. We will never quietly weaken our privacy commitments.
